Sand Dredging
Instead of a modern hydraulic pump used in large-scale marine dredging operations, a 22-RB dragline uses a bucket attached by chains and cables to cast out, drag the material toward the machine, and then lift and deposit it. Commonly used for clearing silt and maintaining river channels. Also, excavating sand from sand ponds or quarries, general land formation and material handling in mining areas.
Pond Digging And Cleaning
22-RB is a popular choice for small to medium-sized ponds due to their manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency. The process involves strategic dirt movement, often separating topsoil from clay, using the clay for sealing the pond bottom or core trench, and using topsoil for bank cover to promote grass growth and prevent erosion. Caution is essential, especially when working on slopes, by keeping the equipment bucket low to the ground to maintain a low center of gravity and avoid tipping.
River Dredging
Removing silt and debris from riverbeds to maintain navigation or control flooding. The machine would dig sediment with its bucket, lifting it from the riverbed. On soft riverbanks, large wooden mats were laid down to provide a stable base for the tracks. The 22-RB were workhorses in river management for many years.
